Tikhon Alexandrovich Rabotnow , ( Russian Тихон Александрович Работнов ., Scientific transliteration Tikhon Aleksandrovich Rabotnov , also English transcribed Tikhon Alexandrovich Rabotnov * 6. August 1904 in Yaroslavl , Russian Empire ; † 16th September 2000 ) was a Russian geobotanist and university professor.

Live and act

Rabotnow studied at the Agricultural Department of the University of Yaroslavl and graduated there in 1924. He then worked at the State Institute for Grassland Research in Moscow. During this time he researched grassland communities in Yakutia and Central Russia , where he developed methods for grassland management and gained numerous insights into the autecology and biology of grassland plants.

For his scientific achievements he was awarded a Dr. hc (1936) and received the title of professor in 1950. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and in 1960 the State Prize of the USSR .

In his work " Ziznennyi cikl mnogoletnich travyanistych rastenij v lugovych cenozach " (English: " The life cycle of perennial plants in meadow communities "), which appeared in 1950, he presented his new method of vegetation analysis, which, however, was long used by Western European vegetation experts was ignored.

The Austrian geobotanists Walter Larcher and Erich Hübl published his textbook under the title Phytocenology: Structure and Dynamics of Natural Ecosystems in 1992.
