The Animal Products Trade Prohibition Act - TierErzHaVerbG, formerly Cat and Dog Fur Import Prohibition Act, is a German federal law .
It regulates the national implementation of regulations (EC) 1523/2007 and 1007/2009. The first regulation bans the import and trade in cat and dog fur ; Exceptions are possible. The second-mentioned EC regulation prohibits the placing on the market of seals (including parts, i.e. skins) and seal products with a few exceptions.
In addition, the law regulates the keeping of fur animals defined there such as mink or red fox ( § 3 and appendix), after an attempt was previously made in the animal welfare and farm animal husbandry ordinance.

§ 1 transfers tasks to the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE), otherwise to the state authorities. § 2 gives them powers to intervene; such pelts or products containing pelts or seal products can be confiscated or returned to the manufacturer or destroyed; they should also take preventive action.

§ 5 regulates tolerance and information obligations. In the administrative procedure, those affected have to prove their legality; They have to pay for expert opinions.

Section 6 regulates the monitoring of imports and exports by the customs authorities .

According to § 7, violations are to be punished as administrative offenses with a fine of up to 5000 euros, sometimes up to 30,000 euros. The affected items can be confiscated.

Section 8 authorizes ordinances, Section 9 regulates costs.
