Tiger iron is the trade name for an opaque, location-shaped built sedimentary rock , which consists of the minerals hematite (hematite), and Jasper , and the rocks radiolarite (chert) or a tiger eye quartz ( tiger's eye with high quartz consists of total). According to EPI , the Institute for Gemstone Testing, tiger iron consists of the components tiger's eye, magnetite and hematite.

The chemical properties vary greatly depending on the composition of the tiger iron.

The silver-gray stripes come from the hematite, which also provides the metallic sheen, the red to yellow stripes come from the jasper or chert or tiger's eye quartz.

Tiger iron is used solely for decorative stones , mainly in the embodiment as a drum stone processed.
