Tihomir is a personal name with the compound -mir. He is probably of Slavic origin. Ticho means Slavic quiet , calm , -mir is originally derived from the Germanic mera big , significant , and changed to -mir , in the Slavic world , peace .
A Turkish-speaking origin of Toq-tämir would also be possible .
The first named bearer was Tugumir , a prince in Brandenburg in the 10th century. In the 11th century a Teichomeros was mentioned in a Byzantine chronicle in Croatia (then in the province of Bulgaria).
