Tim Epkenhans
Tim Epkenhans (* 1972 in Gütersloh ) is a German orientalist.
Life
From 2002 to 2004 he was a consultant at the German embassy in Tajikistan and then until 2009 head of the OSCE Academy in Kyrgyzstan . After receiving his doctorate in Bamberg in 2002 , he has been a professor of Islamic studies, with a focus on Central Asia, at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg since 2016 .
His research interests are the history of Iran in the 19th and 20th centuries, Islam, political transformation and regional identities in Soviet and post-Soviet Central Asia, Islamic elites in post-Soviet Tajikistan, the Tajik civil war (1992–1997) and the semantic change of prefigurative heroes in Iran since 1925.
