Tim Roeloffs (* 1965 in Enschede ) is a Dutch photo artist and cultural ambassador for Berlin. He mainly deals with photomontages .

Live and act

After his studies, he worked as a tennis instructor and traveled to Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Egypt and Germany, where he settled in Berlin in 1992 . In the same year he joined the art initiative of the Kunsthaus Tacheles and finished his work as a tennis teacher. Since then he has been taking photos of buildings, streets, graffiti and people with a Nikon FM2 . At first he mainly shot black and white pictures, which he had printed on ORWO paper, which gave the pictures a light yellowish hue. From around 1994 Roeloffs began to experiment with photo montages. The use of cardboard made the three-dimensionality of his work possible for him . Today he not only uses his own photos for his work, but also pictures from magazines and newspapers. The only tools he uses are scissors, a cutting device and glue.

In autumn 2008 Roeloffs put together a collection together with the Versace fashion house based on his compositions inspired by Berlin life. They were presented on the international catwalk in Milan. In the same year Klaus Wowereit , then mayor of Berlin, appointed Tim Roeloffs as cultural ambassador.

Class Enemy Gallery

Jochen Hummel met Roeloffs at the Tacheles Kunsthaus when the Tacheles artists had to vacate the building in September 2012. For Jochen Hummel, the closure was an important motive for founding Berlin Affordable Art in order to offer the artists a new facility. The Klassenfeind Gallery is the result of a close collaboration with Tim Roeloffs. His works of art can be viewed in a permanent exhibition in the Klassenfeind Gallery at Oranienburger Str. 22.
