Timoleon Chapperon

Timoleon Chapperon (born March 31, 1808 in Chambéry , † October 22, 1867 ibid) was a Savoyard and later a French lawyer, politician and historian from Savoy .

Life

Timoleon Chapperon was born as the son of the lawyer Louis-Marie Chapperon and Jacqueline Sanctus in the Savoy-Sardinian city ​​of Chambéry, which had been annexed to France since 1792 and only reverted to Sardinia after 1815. He attended middle school in his hometown and studied in Turin , where he received his doctorate in 1831 .

After returning to Chambéry, he worked in a law firm and in the city's poor welfare. His interest in historical research arose early on, and in 1837 he published a historical guide through his town and the surrounding area for travelers who visited the Savoy region with increasing tourism .

In 1848 Chapperon joined the city council of Chambéry. In 1849 he was elected as a Savoy delegate in the parliament of the Kingdom of Sardinia, to which he belonged until the annexation of Savoy by France in 1860. From 1852 to 1853 he was mayor and from 1853 continued to be city councilor of Chambéry.

In 1858 Timoleon Chapperon was elected a member of the Académie des sciences, belles-lettres et arts de Savoie . He was also Chevalier of the Legion of Honor .
