Timothy Brinton

Timothy Brinton ( December 24, 1929 - March 24, 2009 ) was a British news anchor and politician.

Brinton was the son of a neurologist. He attended Eton College , the University of Geneva and the Central School of Speech and Drama . He joined the BBC as a broadcaster in the early 1950s shortly after completing his military service. After working there from 1951 to 1955 as a broadcaster, he worked for Radio Hong Kong for two years and then moved to ITN , where he was one of the first news anchors. During his journalistic career he interviewed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, among others . He was the first naked reporter to appear on television - albeit accidentally while on a show on Turkish Baths - and had a guest role as himself in Carry On, Emmanuelle in 1978 . Brinton began working as a freelancer in the early 1960s. However, his career was hampered by his divorce in 1964 from his wife, Jane-Mari Coningham, with whom he had been married since 1954. In 1965 he married again, namely Jeanne Wedge.

In 1975 he was elected to Kent County Council , which included his wife. From 1979 to 1987 Brinton was a member of the House of Commons for the Conservative Party .

Brinton has suffered from dementia since 2004 . He died in March 2009, leaving behind his wife and six children, a son and three daughters from his first marriage and two daughters from his second marriage. His daughter Sal Brinton is also a politician, but she is a member of the Liberal Democrats .
