The Tinago Falls is a waterfall near Iligan City on the island of Mindanao in the province of Lanao del Norte in the southern Philippines . Along with the María Cristina waterfall and the Limunsudan waterfall, it is one of the most important attractions in the city of Iligan City, which is also known as the city of majestic waterfalls .
The word Tinago has its origin in the Filipino language and means something like "hidden", as the falls are hidden by a long gorge . To get to the falls it is necessary to descend an approximately 500-step winding staircase. The water falls from a height of 73 m over cascades into a deep and calm basin that appears like a blue lagoon and is more than 16 m deep. Under the waterfall there is a small cave that you can enter to be impressed by the roar of the water.

Legend
According to legend, there was once an influential and powerful sultan named Agok who, with his wife, ruled over his subjects with pride and selfishness. When the sultan's wife was pregnant, she visited a sorceress disguised as a beggar and asked her help. But their request for help went unheard by the ruling family and they were sent away. Then the sorceress cursed the couple, for whom their child would become ugly, but they did not take the woman's words seriously and banished the sorceress from their realm forever.
When the girl was born, it was indeed ugly, which is why the couple were sad and disappointed, as they expected the child to be as beautiful as its mother. So, out of embarrassment, they hid the child in a cave where the baby named Tin-Ag, which means "hidden face", had to live. The parents took care of the child and often visited their daughter in the cave. After the girl grew up, she came out of the cave and was surprised by her own face. The sorceress who had cursed her parents saw her and made her an offer to transform her into something of great beauty and splendor. She accepted the offer and became the Tinago Waterfall .
