Fish cook's tip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tip of the fish cook was a cooking show of the television of the GDR , which was broadcast weekly from 1960 to 1972. Rudolf Kroboth led the show for ten years .

History of origin

In 1960 a large load of herring in tomato sauce from the Soviet Union arrived in Rostock and was distributed to the shops of the GDR. The sale turned out to be difficult because hardly anyone could read the Cyrillic writing. Rudolf Kroboth was actually the advertising manager of the Rostock Fischkombinat in Marienehe , as a “fish cook” he showed suitable recipes for the canned fish on TV, which were then sold very successfully.

content

After this positive effect, the fish cook's tip was included in the regular television program. Every Tuesday evening shortly before the sandman , Rudolf Kroboth showed what you could "conjure up" with fresh fish or canned food. In 1966, viewers who cooked the program were added. In addition, the monthly program "Rendezvous for connoisseurs" was created .

The content of the program and, above all, the fish species presented were chosen taking into account the current supply situation. The son of Rudolf Kroboth (Rainer Kroboth), who presented the program on television from 1970 after his father fell ill: “When the cold stores were overcrowded with perch, we had to advertise the perch in the next programs. So that they can get rid of them. "

Activities outside of television

With his mobile fish kitchen, Rudolf Kroboth promoted fish consumption through show cooking on site. In addition, he gave recipe tips once a week in the early program of Radio DDR . There were also educational articles on fish in various publications. In the mid-1960s, Kroboth began to set up and run the nationwide fish restaurant chain Gastmahl des Meeres .

End of the series

The main aim of the program was from the beginning to stimulate fish consumption on behalf of the GDR fishing industry, which became clear in 1972: The fishery protection zones were redesignated by the states bordering the Baltic Sea that year. From now on, the GDR had to buy the right to fish in foreign waters with its large fishing fleet with foreign currency. These scarce foreign exchange were missing and the state organs were of the opinion that the few remaining fish could be gotten rid of without “advertising”.
