Rudolf Kroboth (* 1920 , † 1986 ) was a GDR - TV chef .

Kroboth came from Bad Königswart , fled his homeland to Bavaria after the war, first worked there as a toy maker and later as a game dealer, before he finally worked as a farm store manager in Upper Lusatia to support his family with seven children.

The later advertising manager of the state fish industry in Rostock-Marienehe was a passionate cook and cookbook collector. Kroboth, whose lecture was not influenced by a north German, but rather his Bohemian-Franconian homeland idiom, was best known as a Rostock fish cook and presented the five-minute early evening program Tip des Fischkochs for over twelve years .

The idea of ​​this program was also supported by the then Chairman of the State Council of the GDR , Walter Ulbricht , who, unlike his successor Honecker , liked to eat fish dishes himself and recommended Kroboth's presentations to many guests from abroad during the annual international Baltic Sea weeks .

The first broadcast of this series, established two years after the GDR television chef Kurt Drummer , was broadcast on May 17, 1960, and on December 29, 1972, the 606th and last tip of the fish chef was broadcast on GDR television. During his illness from January 1971 to April 1972 he was represented in 64 programs by his son Rainer Kroboth.

The end for the tip of the fish cook came in 1972, when the international fishing rights were reassigned and the GDR could not raise any foreign currency to have its fleet fish in foreign waters. The fish left over for the GDR population that was not exported was sold even without expensive television advertising.

From 1973 Rudolf Kroboth devoted himself increasingly to the fish restaurants Gastmahl des Meeres that had been created up to then . This chain of restaurants, which opened in Weimar on Herderplatz in the summer of 1966 and then expanded to Berlin , Rostock , Leipzig , Magdeburg , Erfurt , Jena and Dresden within just two years , was Kroboth's idea. In the end there were 33 such fish restaurants on the territory of the GDR.
