The association “Tiroler Künstlerschaft” was founded in 1946 as a private representation of the interests of visual artists with place of birth, place of residence or artistic work in the state of Tyrol . In the course of time, the association was recognized as the "official" representation of the visual arts in Tyrol and currently has the de facto function of the professional association of Austrian visual artists for Tyrol, as there is still no regional organization of the above-mentioned professional association in Tyrol.

The association currently has 330 members (as of August 2015). The main purpose of the association is to represent and promote the cultural, economic and social interests of visual artists related to Tyrol.

The Tyrolean Artists currently operate the following institutions / exhibition venues in Tyrol with funding from the State of Tyrol:

In the “Kunstpavillon Innsbruck” and the “New Gallery in the Hofburg Innsbruck”, the Tyrolean artists focus on the development of exhibitions by international artists in cooperation with regional artists or members who place regional Tyrolean positions in the context of related work - and ways of thinking should and can.

The "Künstlerhaus Schloss Büchsenhausen" is also a center for production, research and discussion in international and regional dialogue. It provides artists, curators, art critics and theorists with a platform that enables the development and production of artistic and art-theoretical projects in a critical context. At the same time, it forms a forum for direct exchange between all the people involved, and combines two support programs of the association together with the state of Tyrol under one roof. On the one hand, it is the venue for the “International Fellowship Program for Art and Theory” , within the framework of which graduated artists, curators and art theorists / critics come to Innsbruck for one to two semesters and work on their projects here. On the other hand, it is the subsidized “Atelierhaus for artists living in Tyrol” who are looking for a work space in an artistically interesting environment.

On behalf of the State of Tyrol, the Tyrolean Artists are also coordinating the “Art in Public Spaces” funding campaign (handling the selection process, helping with the implementation of the projects, contact point for information and questions).
