Titular diocese of La Imperial

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

La Imperial is the name of a historic city in Chile and is now a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .

The city was founded in 1551 by Pedro de Valdivia and abandoned by the Spaniards in the course of the Araucanian uprisings in 1600. In 1882 Gregorio Urrutia founded the city of Carahue, which still exists today .

The titular bishopric goes back to the historical bishopric of the same name in Chile, which existed until the city was abandoned and belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Lima .
