Titular Diocese of Newport
The Diocese of Newport , in Latin Dioecesis Neoporta , is a titular diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .
Located in Wales , the diocese emerged in 1895 from the diocese of Newport and Menevia , which in turn had its origins in the Vicariate Apostolic Western District founded in 1840 . It belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Westminster , had a circumference of 3,064 km² and was replaced in 1916 by the Archdiocese of Cardiff .
