Titus Statilius Taurus (Consul 44)
Titus Statilius Taurus († 53) was a Roman politician and senator of the 1st century.
Taurus was a son of Titus Statilius Taurus , who had been an ordinary consul in 11 , and grandson of the speaker Marcus Valerius Messalla Corvinus on his mother's side . His brother was Titus Statilius Taurus Corvinus , consul in 45. In 44 Taurus himself became a full consul and later, probably in 52/53, proconsul of the province of Africa . In 53, at the instigation of Agrippina , who had an eye on the gardens of the wealthy consular, Tarquitius Priscus, who had been a legate in Africa under him , charged Taurus with magic and stalking against the imperial family. Taurus killed himself before the Senate ruled.
