Tjejmilen
Tjejmilen is a Swedish ten-kilometer road run for women only. The run is held every year around Djurgården in Stockholm . The race is Europe's largest women's run; In 2011, 30,576 participants from 23 countries were registered.
In 2010 it was exactly 10.14 km. The highest point on the route is 28 m higher than the start. So it's a very flat running route.
history
The first run took place in 1984 with 2000 registered participants. As a purely women's run, it was organized on the model of Kvindeløb , a five- and ten-kilometer run for women in Copenhagen . Evy Palm was the first winner. She then won four more races and is, together with Isabellah Andersson, the most successful female runner in this race.
A 1.5 km run is organized for girls aged ten to 13. Stimulated by the great success, more women’s races were soon created and the Swedish classics Wasalauf and Vätternrundan set up the Tjejvasan cross-country skiing competition and the Tjejvättern cycling race .
