The Norwegian island of Tjeldøya is located at the exit of the Ofotfjord in the Northern European Sea . It is almost completely surrounded by the larger neighboring island of Hinnøya and separated from it by the narrow Tjeldsund . The mountainous island has an area of 187 km² and in Trollfjellet reaches a height of 1010 m above sea level. Tjeldøya is connected to the mainland by a 240 m long bridge. Administratively, the island belongs to the municipality of Tjeldsund in Fylke Nordland ; The main town of the island (as well as the entire municipality) is Hol on the northeast coast of the island.
