Tobias Haupt

Tobias Haupt (born February 5, 1984 in Landshut ) is a German business economist and football manager . Since 2018 he has headed the Academy of the German Football Association (DFB). He also has a professorship in the field of sports management.

Life

From 2004 to 2008, Haupt studied sport and event management at the University of Applied Management in Ismaning and also worked as a research assistant in the sports management faculty. He then studied business administration with a focus on sports management at the private university Schloss Seeburg in Austria , before deciding on a doctorate in economics with a focus on football management at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . In 2012 and 2013 he developed a strategy concept with a focus on digitization for Hannover 96 and worked together with the board and management of the former Bundesliga club.

He completed his doctoral thesis in 2014 (topic: "Social media marketing and capitalization opportunities in top-class sport: an empirical success factor analysis within the 1st Bundesliga"). In the same year, Haupt was appointed to a professorship for “Sport Management and Social Media Marketing in Sport” at the University of Applied Management. He later became dean of the sports management faculty. He also took over the post of deputy director and technical head of the “Digitization in Football” division at the International Football Institute. His research areas included top-class sports marketing, capitalization options, aspects of sports management, communication options between football clubs and their supporters, and the use of social networks in professional sports. As part of his professorship, he continued the exchange with associations, clubs and top athletes. In addition, he took over the post of Deputy Director and the technical head of the "Digitization in Football" division at the International Football Institute in Ismaning. His core areas include football management, strategy development in football, training and further education as well as innovation in football.

On October 1, 2018, Haupt took up the position of head of the Academy of the German Football Association (DFB). It is part of the DFB National Teams and Academy Directorate under the direction of Oliver Bierhoff . According to the association, the focus of his work is on the areas of “development and innovation” and “training, further education and training of the top players in German football”. His projects as head of the academy include, among other things, leadership conferences, the development of a think tank and the reform of the football teacher training course. Haupt works with the coaches and players of the German national soccer teams as well as selected clubs and experts in German soccer.

Private

Tobias Haupt lives in Frankfurt am Main and in Munich. He ended his career as a soccer goalkeeper in 2014 at the age of 30. He played in the Bavarian League with SpVgg Landshut and SC Fürstenfeldbruck .
