Peter Bergmann dies

A man became known as Peter Bergmann , whose body was found on June 16, 2009 on the beach in the Irish village of Rosses Point. His true identity has not been clarified to this day, as he apparently made a point of not being identified. So he had no ID or other papers with him. His trail can only be traced back to a bus depot in Derry . He moved into a room at a hotel in Sligo and checked in with the name Peter Bergmann and an address that does not exist. It is also noticeable that he left the hotel, in which he stayed for three days, every day with a purple-colored bag, the contents of which are still unknown. The Peter Bergmann case was filmed under the title The Last Days of Peter Bergmann and received an award.

personal description

The age of the man is estimated at 55 to 60 years, he was slim and had short, well-groomed, gray hair. He is also said to have spoken with a German accent. He was wearing a black leather jacket from the C&A brand and blue size 50 trousers, also from the C&A brand. His shoes were black and size 44, he also wore a black leather belt, a size M tank top and blue wool socks. The labels on his clothes were all removed.

He was 1.79 m tall, had light skin and blue eyes with dark eyebrows. His teeth were in good condition, including a gold tooth and a silver filling.

autopsy

The body of the unknown man was found on the beach in the Irish village of Rosses Point, which is part of the city of Sligo. The cause of death could not be clearly established, but is estimated to be death by drowning. The autopsy showed no evidence of a homicide, but it was found that the man had advanced prostate cancer and had bone tumors . Toxicological tests showed no traces of painkillers or similar active substances in his body. Besides, he only had one kidney.

In general, it was noticeable that the stranger left the hotel several times a day with a purple bag, which was no longer recognizable when he returned.

June 12 (2009), Friday: The man was at the Ulsterbus depot in Derry between 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. At 6:28 pm he got off at the Sligo stop. He carried a black shoulder bag and a larger tote bag with him.

Then he took a taxi and drove to the Sligo City Hotel , where he booked a room for € 65 a night. He checked in with what turned out to be the false name Peter Bergmann after his death and entered the address Ainstettersn 15, 4472 Vienna - an address that does not even exist. The receptionist later recalled that the man spoke with a heavy German accent.

June 13, Saturday: At 10:49:01 am, the man bought eight stamps worth 82 cents each and airmail stickers from the post office in Sligo.

June 14, Sunday: Between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., the man left the Sligo City Hotel, took a taxi and asked the driver where there was a nice, quiet spot on the beach where he could swim. The taxi driver recommended Rosses Point and drove him there. The man later came back in the same taxi and got off at the bus station in Sligo.

June 15, Monday: At 1:06 p.m. he checked out of the hotel and handed his room key to the front desk. He left the hotel with a shoulder bag, a purple plastic bag, and a dark tote bag that he did not have when he arrived in Sligo. He walked to the bus station, crossing Quay Street and Wine Street until he got to the Quayside Shopping Center , where he stood at a door for a few minutes. At 1:16 p.m. he left the mall and walked back down Wine Street to the bus stop, still with the three bags. At 1:38 pm he ordered a cappuccino and a sandwich from the bus stop. While he was eating his toast, he took out a piece of paper, wrote something down, then tore it up again. At 2:20 p.m. he boarded a bus and got off at Rosses Point. The man was seen by 16 people on the beach.

June 16, Tuesday: Arthur and Brian Kinsella found the body of the unknown man on the beach at 6:45 a.m. At 8:10 a.m., the man was greeted by Dr. Valerie McGowan officially declared dead.

After a five-month investigation, the body was buried in Sligo. Four gardaí were present at the funeral .

Investigations

According to the French daily Le Monde , which interviewed the Austrian police about the case in 2015 , they had not been contacted by the Irish police. Le Monde also reported that there was no entry for the man on Interpol , either in the "Missing Person" or "Wanted Person" category. The country to which the man belongs would have to report him missing, which has not yet happened.
