Toepfer International (official company name: Alfred C. Toepfer International GmbH) was a German company in the field of agribusiness , which was also active in the field of logistics . The company headquarters was in Hamburg from the start . It was taken over by the US agricultural group Archer Daniels Midland in 2014 and has operated under the new name ADM Germany GmbH since then .
history
The company's history goes back to the entrepreneur Alfred Toepfer . He founded Toepfer International in 1919. Right from the start, the company traded around the world in agricultural products, in particular grain, animal feed, vegetable oils, as well as oilseeds and fertilizers.
In 1961, the capital of the company's general partner, Alfred C. Toepfer Verwaltungsgesellschaft , was transferred in full to the foundation of the company's founder, Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS . In addition to its task of promoting cultural concerns, this acted as a major source of capital for the company until the 1980s. It was one of the "leading international grain and animal feed trading companies" which, including its holdings in land trade and shipping, achieved sales of around DM 10 billion in the mid-1970s.
In addition to the actual trading business, the company offered its customers additional financial services that were always related to the trading business. In addition, capacities in the area of logistics for the goods produced were also offered. The company had 42 offices worldwide. More than 2,000 people were most recently employed at Toepfer International . In the 2007/2008 financial year, around € 9.9 billion were turned over.
