The Tokrau ( Kazakh Тоқырау Toqyrau ; Russian Токрау Tokrau ) is a river in Kazakhstan .

It has its source in the Karagandy area on the edge of the Kyzyltas Mountains on the Kazakh threshold . It flows south. After 298 kilometers, the river seeps into the sand north of Lake Balkhash . The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . The lower reaches often fall dry.
