Tomás Regalado

Tomás Regalado (born November 7, 1861 in Santa Ana (El Salvador) , † July 11, 1906 in El Jícaro , El Progreso Department , Guatemala ) was President of El Salvador from November 13, 1898 to March 1, 1903 .

Life

The Regalado family is part of the Agujero de oro . Regalado and his best friend Rafael Antonio Gutiérrez were one of the 44 conspirators who overthrew Carlos Ezeta on April 29, 1894 . On November 14, 1898, he ousted Gutiérrez and became president himself. In 1899 he was elected for a four-year term. He supported opponents of the regime of Manuel José Estrada Cabrera in Guatemala and gave them asylum . During his term of office, the establishment of the Escuela Politécnica Militar and the start of construction of the Teatro Nacional in Santa Ana (El Salvador) fell . He initiated the construction of the railway. He set up a Policía Rural Montada , a predecessor of the Guardia Nacional .

He was Minister of War in the government cabinet of his successor Pedro José Escalón.

In 1906 he led an army from El Salvador that invaded the Guatemala area. He was seriously injured in a battle near El Entrecijo and died on June 11, 1906.
