Tom Goreau

Thomas J. "Tom" Goreau (* unknown in Jamaica ) is a biochemist and marine biologist . He is the son of Thomas F. Goreau and Nora I. Goreau.

After studying in Jamaica, he worked as a doctor of planetary physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , in planetary astronomy at the California Institute of Technology and in biochemistry at Harvard University . With his parents he explored the coral reefs of Jamaica. This work still does not let him go today. He researches the effects of global climate change , marine pollution and new diseases in the reefs of the Caribbean and the world's oceans. His current work is focused on restoring sick or dead coral reefs. He pays special attention to the coral reef biotope in its function as a breeding ground for marine life. He continues to work on coastal protection through artificial coral reefs . He was a leading scientist in the United Nations Center for Science and Technology for Development. He was a close friend of the late Wolf Hilbertz , with whom he worked together on the further development of the Biorock technology . He is currently President of the Global Coral Reef Alliance .
