Tom Nekljudow (born August 27, 1960 ) is a Finnish jazz drummer.

Live and act

Nekljudow was already interested in rhythmically oriented music from Africa and the Caribbean in kindergarten. He started playing the piano at the age of nine before switching to drums. Since he was 15 years old, he turned to jazz. At the end of the 1970s he became known as the drummer of the ethnojazz group Piirpauke of the saxophonist Sakari Kukko , of which he belonged until 1984 and with whom he also toured internationally.

Since 1983 Nekljudow took lessons from Edward Vesala . At the same time he worked with the Antti Hytti Quartet and Raoul Björkenheim's group Roommushklahn , from which in 1997 the jazz, improvisation and world music group Otná Eahket emerged .

Nekljudow brought his knowledge of Indian and Afro-Cuban music to the work of the large-format ensemble Suhkan Uhka , which emerged around 2000 from the expansion of the Otná Eahket group . He also performed with the Juhani Aaltonen Trio , to which he belongs alongside Uffe Krokfors , and recorded two albums with them ( Mother Tongue , 2003 and Illusion of Ballad , 2006). He was also a member of Jorma Tapio's Rolling Thunder and can also be heard on albums by Värttinä and the UMO Jazz Orchestra .
