Tom Veelers (born September 14, 1984 in Ootmarsum ) is a former Dutch cyclist .

Career

Tom Veelers became Dutch junior road champion in 2002. As an U23 rider, he won the Berlin Tour in 2004 and the overall ranking and three stages of the Olympia's Tour in 2006, as well as the overall classification and the U23 event of the classic Paris – Roubaix .

In 2008 Veelers joined the then Professional Continental Team Skil-Shimano . His main task was preparing the sprint for team captains like Marcel Kittel . However, he successfully competed in sprints on his own and won various sections of smaller stage races for his team , such as B. at the third stage of the Circuit Franco-Belge 2011.

Since 2015, Veelers suffered from knee problems and had to undergo two operations. After recovery was no longer achievable, he ended his career as an active athlete at the end of the season and switched to his team's supervisory staff.
