Tom Yam
Tom Yam ( Thai : ต้มยำ ) is a hot, sour and spicy soup from Thai cuisine .
Etymology and history
Tom means "soup", yam means something like "mixed". Depending on the method of preparation, the word combination is followed by a third word, e.g. B. gai or kai for chicken or kung or gung for shrimp .
The dish goes back to Siamese cuisine. A first written mention of the court can be found in the guide book Suphasit Son Ying by the Siamese poet Sunthon Phu , which was written in the first half of the 19th century.
preparation
Tom Yam consists of a broth obtained from the main ingredient , which is supplemented with fish sauce , shallots , lemongrass , kaffir lime leaves, galangal and mushrooms (in Thailand dark-striped shavings ) and other ingredients depending on your taste. The main seasoning of the soup is chopped up chilli pods (simple variant), but the spice paste Nam prik pao (the main ingredient of which is also chilli) is usually used.
