The choir association Gegenstimmen is a politically active choir in Vienna .

The choir was created in 1989 through the union of the Lerchenfelder Politchore with the robins. The choir has an average of 50 members.

The content of the choir is directed against war , fascism , violence and oppression , is critical of globalization , asks questions and sings against a lack of interest and silence.

Since 1998 the Gegenstimmen have been performing their own programs in Austria , Germany and Switzerland and have been involved in theater projects such as “ nationalHYMNEN ” by Miki Malör / monochrom (2005) and “Der Schwalbenkönig” by Franzobel .

For the monochrome CD " Carefully Selected Moments " they also recorded the song "Im söbn Boot" .

The choir took part in the Europe-wide choir project WahnFlucht , where songs on the topic of desertion were performed on the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2014 . A song from Frederic Rzewski's "Ode to the Deserter" was performed by the opposing voices on October 24, 2014 for the opening of the Viennese monument to the deserters on Ballhausplatz.
