Tomahawk is an American alternative rock music group. It was founded in 2000 by singer Mike Patton ( Faith No More , Fantômas , Mr. Bungle ) and guitarist Duane Denison ( The Jesus Lizard ). Denison brought the former drummer of the band Helmet , John Stanier, into the band, Patton invited Kevin Rutmanis, the former bassist of the Melvins , to the project.

Career

The self-titled debut album of the band, produced by Joe Funderburk, was released in 2001. Two years later, the album Mit Gas followed , which was created in collaboration with producer Joe Barresi. Both albums were released on Patton's Ipecac Recordings .

The third album Anonymous was released in June 2007 (in Germany on June 22nd), also on Ipecac Recordings. Rutmanis left the band during the recording. The album is a setting of traditional Indian chants that Denison researched while traveling to the American Indian reservations. The title Anonymous pays tribute to the unknown in the tradition of Indian music.

In 2012 the box set Eponymous To Anonymous was released , which brings together the band's first three studio albums. In the same year Tomahawk played the album Oddfellows with Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle) as the new bassist in Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound Studios . The album was released on January 29, 2013, from the album the single Stone Letter was decoupled, for which a music video was shot.
