Tomari Jima ( Japanese 止 ま り 島 , 'holding island' ) is a small island off the Prince Harald coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It belongs to the Flatvær archipelago and is located about 500 m north - northeast of Iwa-zima in the northeast part of the Lützow-Holm Bay .
Japanese scientists named it so in 2008 because it provided a suitable anchorage for the Japanese icebreaker Shirase .
