Tomasz Giaro

Tomasz Giaro (born in Wrocław in 1951 ) is a Polish lawyer and professor at the University of Warsaw .

Life

Tomasz Giaro studied law at the University of Warsaw and received his doctorate in 1978 with the dissertation “Excusatio necessitatis w prawie rzymskim”. In 1984/85 he was on a scholarship at the University of Bonn . His habilitation took place in 1988 with the thesis "Dogmatic Truth and Timelessness in Roman Jurisprudence" at the University of Warsaw.

From 1990 to 2006 he researched and published as a research associate at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Frankfurt am Main . During this time he wrote a number of articles for the New Pauly (DNP). In 2006 Giara became a professor at the University of Warsaw, in 2016 he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Law for five years. Giaro's main research areas are Roman law , Eastern European civil law in the 19th and 20th centuries, and legal methodology and theory.

Giaro was married to the lawyer Małgorzata Gersdorf and they have a son.
