Tommy Thorwarth

Tommy Thorwarth (born December 1, 1979 in Potsdam ) is a former German basketball player. The 1.94 meter tall winger played for Alba Berlin  and Central German BC in the basketball league .

career

Born in Potsdam, he was trained in basketball in the youth department of TuS Lichterfelde , the partner club of Alba Berlin at the time. In 1997 and 1998, he became German A-Youth champions with the A-Youth "TuSLis" and played in the second division men's team and earned a reputation as a talent with strengths in defense. In the run-up to the 2000/01 season he made the jump to Alba's Bundesliga team, and in October 2000 he made his debut in the basketball Bundesliga . Later also appearances in the European Cup were added. He played 26 Bundesliga players for Berlin until 2002 and became German champions with them in 2001 and 2002.

From August 2002 Thorwarth was thanks to a loan agreement in the squad of the Central German BC, for which he completed five Bundesliga games before he tore a patellar tendon in a game against Bamberg in early November 2002. He suffered multiple knee injuries and ended his professional career. Thorwarth began training as a physiotherapist and in 2008 became a team supervisor at Alba Berlin. In the same function he was later in action with the German national team.

He later played basketball for the regional division Central Hoops Berlin and in spring 2011 briefly in the second men's team Alba Berlin in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB .
