Anthony Alastair "Tony" Johnstone (born May 2, 1956 in Bulawayo ) is a Zimbabwean professional golfer . For more than 20 years he was a charismatic figure on the PGA European Tour . Since May 2006 he has been eligible to play on the European Seniors Tour .
Career
Johnstone grew up in Zimbabwe along with other great golfers such as Nick Price and Mark McNulty and became a professional golfer in 1979 . He won a total of six tournaments on the European Tour , including the prestigious final tournament, the Volvo Masters in 1992. His last victory on the tour was in 2001 at the Qatar Masters, which was also his highest winners check. After that, Johnstone concentrated more and more on commenting on golf tournaments on television. On the European Seniors Tour and won other tournaments in 2008 and 2009.
Johnstone is widely recognized for its brilliant short game near the green. On the green , however, he has his weakness, putting , which repeatedly limited his success rate. From 1998 to 2000 it clearly dominated the so-called sand saves category (success statistics for bunker pitches around the green).
Tony Johnstone has been married to his wife Karen since 1981, has 2 children, Dale (* 1985) and Lauren (* 1990), and currently lives in Sunningdale, England .
