Top 12 2010/11

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Top 12 2010/11 was the 31st French team championship in chess and at the same time the first to be played as a round-robin tournament with 12 teams.

The champions were the Club de Marseille Echecs , while the defending champion Club de L'Echiquier Chalonnais had to be content with sixth place. The Club de Lutèce Echecs and CE de Rueil Malmaison had risen from Nationale I. Purely athletic Lutèce achieved relegation, while Rueil Malmaison together with Cercle d'Echecs de Strasbourg and the Club de Echiquier Guingampais occupied the relegation places, but Lutèce withdrew his team as well as the Club de AJE Noyon . Guingamp achieved relegation as the best relegated team, while twelfth starting place was not occupied in the 2011/12 season. For the reported team squads, see team squad of the Top 12 2010/11 .

Game dates

The competitions were played centrally in Mulhouse from May 26th to June 5th, 2011 .

Season course

In the first six rounds Marseille, Clichy, Évry and Mulhouse won all competitions, so that the decision in the title fight had to fall between them. Over the next three rounds, Évry (by losing to Clichy and drawing by Marseille) and Mulhouse (by losing to Marseille and Clichy) fell behind. The decision between Marseille and Clichy was not made until the last lap, when Marseille overtook Clichy by winning a direct comparison. In the relegation battle, however, everything was decided before the last lap.
