Topo-geographical-statistical lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria
The topo-geographical-statistical lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria is a two-volume lexicon that was published in 1831 and 1832 by Joseph Anton Eisenmann and Karl Friedrich Hohn . The full title reads: "Topo-geographical-statistical lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria or alphabetical description of all the districts, cities, markets, villages, hamlets, farms, castles, wastelands, mountains, excellent mountains and forests, bodies of water, etc. contained in the Kingdom of Bavaria"
On the one hand, the work is based on a two-volume draft of the same name, which was published in 1818/19. This topography contains a complete list of all places in the Kingdom of Bavaria with the indication of the type of place and its administrative affiliation ( regional court or royal court ). The places were classified into desert (1 house), hamlet (2-11) and village (12 and more), as well as market , town and parish village . A church village was considered a village. The places were sorted alphabetically, where necessary, according to their root word; Prefixes (old, new, upper, lower, upper, lower) were added to it.
The descriptions of the eight districts into which Bavaria was divided from 1817 onwards , the information on the number of residents, residential buildings, religious affiliation (almost always only the Christian denominations Catholic and Protestant are taken into account) have been incorporated into this work. , the distance to the next larger town and, if necessary, brief comments on the economy and history of the respective town. The date of the statistical surveys is unclear, but often identical to that of 1818. The village type Kirchdorf was newly introduced.
The first edition published in 1831/32 bundles this information largely unchanged. In 1840 there was a slightly improved second edition of the work.
