The Torah type is a small type of coaster from the 1980s.

history

The size of the German coastal ships increased steadily in the decades after the second. The Kümos of the first post-war period mostly had a measurement of a maximum of 299 gross register tonnes (GRT), from the mid-1950s the measurement grew to up to 499 GRT, since the early 1970s to 999 GRT and in the 1970s further to 1599 GRT. At the beginning of the 1980s, the generation of small post-war buildings had largely disappeared from the German coastal shipping fleet - but there was still a market for small, shallow waterways in the smaller ports of the North and Baltic Seas. After no more newbuildings for this market segment had been built for over a decade, the Husum shipyard in 1980 offered a ship type with only 299 gross register tons for the first time, of which a total of seven units were subsequently built at the Husum shipyard and the Kröger shipyard in Rendsburg. The model ship of the series was the Tora , which was delivered in Husum in 1981 , and the end was the Eros , which was completed in Rendsburg in 1986 . By 1989 the Husum shipyard also delivered some enlarged follow-up structures of the type.

Cargo handling on the Ingeborg Pilot
The Dantic with a retrofitted excavator

The ships have a deckhouse arranged aft above the engine room and a single cargo hold arranged amidships of largely unobstructed form without undercuts and a raised foredeck. The 37.10 meter long and 9.00 meter wide hatch of the hold is closed with two pairs of folding hatch covers. The carrying capacity of the 63.00 meter long and 11.30 meter wide ships is 1100 tons with a draft of 3.37 meters. The ships did not receive loading gear during construction , but some units were retrofitted with an excavator for on-board cargo handling.

The drive of the series consists of a four-stroke diesel engine with an output of around 440 kilowatts , which allows a speed of around ten knots. Different models from the manufacturers Callesen and MWM were used.
