Torbjörn Törnqvist

Torbjörn Törnqvist (* 1953 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish entrepreneur. He is the CEO and majority shareholder of Gunvor .

Life

After earning an MBA from Stockholm University , he worked in the planning department of British Petroleum . He then took over the management of the oil trading department at Scandinavian Trading Co (until 1989), then head of the oil department of Intermaritime Group Petrotrade.

In 1997 he and his partner Gennadi Timchenko founded the oil trading company Gunvor, today one of the largest companies in Switzerland. In the wake of the Crimean crisis , the United States put Timchenko on a list of people threatened with sanctions. Shortly before it came into force, Törnqvist took over his share in the company in March 2014 and has since been the main shareholder of Gunvor with around 87%.

Törnqvist is Sweden's Honorary Consul in Geneva. He is a sailing fan and a partner in Artemis Racing , which competed in the 34th America's Cup in 2013 and the 35th America's Cup in 2017 .
