history

In the winter of 1929, a slalom competition was held for the first time on Matthias-Schmidt-Berg. A ski stadium with chair lifts and tow lifts has been built on this mountain since 1948. Due to the rapidly growing number of visitors, a single chair lift was built. This led from today's office building (winter ticket office) tapering to today's double chairlift I up towards the start of today's summer toboggan run .

Summer ski area

In order to enable “skiing” in summer, an approximately 25 m wide track made of barite gravel was built next to the former single chair lift up to the mountain. Driving on this track was only possible with special, heavy wooden skis with a metal layer. Such historic skis are still owned by the lift operator today. In the mid-1970s, the summer ski slope was started to grow with grass seed, because the maintenance of this run was not economically viable. The former barite piste can only be seen from afar because the piste strip has quite striking planting that stands out from the rest of the mountain.

Matthias-Schmidt-Berg ski center

At the beginning of the 1970s, Rudolf Alberti (1907–1974) opened the alpine ski center on Matthias-Schmidt-Berg. The construction of the summer toboggan run and the associated double chairlift, as well as the new construction of the drag lifts, began. After the completion of both lifts, the first double chair lift opened in 1975, whereby in the first few years the guests of the summer toboggan run were transported up the mountain with the single chair lift and the sledges (without passenger transport) with the new double chair lift. In 1981, the removal of the old chairlift began to make room for a new, modern double chairlift, the valley station of which was placed directly next to the old station building. Today only the remains of this lift can be seen. The valley station was converted into a ski rental, the mountain station was demolished and its former location was planted with spruce trees. The last support was removed in 2010, only the hold-down device in the valley station is still there. In addition, the Alberti lift operations still own an old lift chair.

Others

In the 1950s, a snowmaking system from the USA was tested for the first time in the world at Matthias-Schmidt-Berg . This was expanded more and more in the following years.
The double chairlift 2 was modernized in the 1990s. It received a new drive and new seat hangers.
In 2010 the middle of the previous three surface lifts was shut down and dismantled due to a technical defect. A repair of the tow lift would not be financially worthwhile. This was called "Schlepplift 2", after its dismantling, the then "Schlepplift 3" was named "Schlepplift 2".
