The Himmelmoor peat railway is a field railway in Quickborn ( Pinneberg district , Schleswig-Holstein ) with a 600 mm gauge.
history
The Himmelmoor peat railway was built around 1900 to transport peat from the extraction area in Himmelmoor to the peat factory on the eastern edge of the moor and is still in operation today. The route has repeatedly adapted to the mining areas over the years. A connecting line from the peat plant to the Quickborn train station was shut down in 1970. Smaller diesel locomotives and peat trucks , some of which are built in our own workshop, are used .
In addition, since 2015 the Torfbahn Himmelmoor e. V. Peat railway tours are offered on an approximately four-kilometer section. This association would like to continue operating the railway for visitors after the planned end of peat extraction in 2020.
