The Torfbahn Wassiljewski Moch ( Russian Узкоколейная железная дорога Васильевского торфопредприятия , transcribed Uskokoleinaja schelesnaja doroga Wassiljewskowo torfopredprijatija , transliterated Uzkokolejnaâ železnaâ doroga Vasil'evskogo torfopredpriâtiâ ) is still 50 km long narrow gauge railway in the settlement Wassiljewski Moch ( Russian Васильевский Мох ) in Tver Oblast in Russia .

history

Since 1927 peat has been mined near Wassiljewski Moch. In 1936 the village of Kalinin, which is now called Tver , was opened up by a broad-gauge railway and almost at the same time the narrow-gauge railway was built on the other side of the village. After the temporary cessation of peat extraction in the last quarter of 1941 during World War II , peat extraction was resumed after the Kalinin district was liberated from occupation by German troops.

In 1947 a technical project was started for the reconstruction and expansion of peat extraction at Wassilewski Moch, with the aim of multiplying the amount of peat production, among other things by building new sections of the narrow-gauge railway. Since the 1980s, the railway line has been operated by the industrial railway company near the village of Vasilyevsky Moch ( Russian Васильевское предприятие промышленного железнодорожного транспортЖ ).

Current condition

The company for industrial rail transport in the village of Vasilyevsky Moch was active until 2002. Then the volume of peat production was drastically reduced several times and railway operations on the Orshino — Romanovo — New Orsha section ( Russian Оршино — Романово — Новая Орша ) were discontinued. Most of the lines have not been in operation since 2005. Since October 2012 there has only been rail operation on parts of the route and other sections of the route have been dismantled since 2014 so that the embankment can be used as a road.
