Aden Gulf torpedo is a ray species from the family of the torpedo . It lives in the Gulf of Aden in the north-western Indian Ocean and differs from other species of the genus by the striking color of its back.
features
Torpedo adenensis has the typical, somewhat wider than long disc shape of its family, consisting of the body and pectoral fins , whereby the disc slightly covers a pair of anal fins . The eyes are relatively small and are close to the large injection holes . It has two pectoral fins that are smaller and less round in female specimens. The anal fins are long and narrow, the tail, however, is short and strong and, like the back, from rust-red to orange-brown in color, without the typical spots of other representatives of the genus; the underside is creamy white. The two electroplaxes are clearly recognizable at the base of the tail. When reaching sexual maturity, representatives of the species reach a total length of between 30 and 40 cm.
