The Torre Derecha (also Torre Nueva ) is a defense tower in the municipality of Algarrobo , Province of Malaga , Andalusia , Spain and has been on the list of Bien de Interés Cultural since 1993 .

Its access, which was via a staircase and not, as is usually the case, via a wooden ladder, is remarkable.

The fortified tower , built in the 16th century, has been almost completely preserved, it consists mainly of irregular masonry, for which boulders from the nearby river were used.

Side view

The cylindrical torso of the tower rests on a conical base. It has two floors and an area of 182 square meters. The lower part was designed as a material and powder store and is accessible from the upper floor via a hatch. The height of the tower is just over 11 meters. The diameter of the base is 13 meters, while in the upper area it is only slightly more than 8 meters, so that it forms a truncated cone . The narrow notches on the north side were probably used to ventilate the dungeon.

The upper chamber (the main room) is closed off with a large dome, where the chimney is also located, and a staircase that leads to the roof terrace.

The entrance is on the north side and runs over a 1.5 meter wide staircase separated from the tower on a brick ramp. It is secured with a drawbridge. The roof has a lowered parapet on the south side.

Like its namesake in Cabo de Gata, it was able to accommodate 8 infantrymen, 4 cavalrymen and 2 artillery pieces.
