The Torre de Porto Pi is a historic tower converted into a lighthouse in Palma de Mallorca in Spain .
location
It is located south of the entrance to the port of Porto Pi in the southwest of Palma de Mallorca in the area of the Port de Palma . North of the entrance is the Torre de Paraires .
Architecture and history
The lower part of the tower probably dates from the Moorish times. The first written mention of a lighthouse in this area is in a document dated September 12, 1300, with the lighthouse in a different position. The access to the port could be blocked by means of a chain to the Torre de Paraires in the north. King Pedro ordered the conversion of the tower into a lighthouse in a document on December 2, 1369. Twelve oil lamps provided the light at a height of 40 meters above sea level. The current upper part of the tower was built in 1613.
