The Torry Hill Railway is a private park railroad with the unusual gauge of 229 mm (9 inches ) at Frinsted in the Borough of Maidstone in Kent , England . It is only operated irregularly.

history

The Torry Hill Railway, like many narrow-gauge railways, was laid on English country estates in the 1930s. It is maintained by volunteer railway enthusiasts and only operated occasionally. There is also a turntable, a 30 m long tunnel and a viaduct built from scaled down bricks. It was owned by the banker Robert Leigh-Pemberton, Baron Kingsdown , until 2013 .

The Torry Hill Railway tracks are laid on private land that is not open to the public. There are no public footpaths or public rights of way through the estate .
