Torsten Brand Prize

The Torsten Brand Prize promotes ideas and projects that enable the blind and visually impaired to have better access to information and communication. This should be done by making it easier to use technology. Individuals and groups, research projects as well as non-profit institutions and organizations from all over Germany can apply . The prize was awarded for the first time on October 21, 2011 in Freiburg im Breisgau . The prize is endowed with 7,000 euros.

Founder & namesake

Nuance Communications is the founder of the Torsten Brand award . Brand († 2010), even blind, was the first programmer a voice output software ( " screen readers ") on mobile phones . With his software TALKS (previously "Talx") he went to Nuance Communications and worked there for several years.
