Torsten Karow

Torsten Karow (born November 24, 1970 in Dahme / Mark ) is a German composer, lyricist and songwriter from Cottbus.

Life

Torsten Karow, trained and active as a music and special education teacher, completed several years of vocal training with jazz singer Marianne Baer at the Cottbus Conservatory in the early 1990s . Baer also recommended him for the Cottbus children's musical . He has been a songwriter since 1987.

In 1994 he became choirmaster and songwriter at the Cottbus Children's Musical. Since 2003 he has been its artistic director. From 2009 he also leads the Sachsendorfer Children's Choir. He is also the artistic head of the musical project "Träumer und Menschen", founded in 2013.

In 2005 he and Detlef Bielke wrote the official hymn of the city of Cottbus " Meine Stadt " and developed the "Gala 850" for the 850th anniversary of the city in 2006 with over 200 participating children and young people.

In 2007 he composed the country song "For the soul " for the East German pop singer Monika Herz and her son David , which appeared in 2008 on the Amiga compilation " Monika Herz: My greatest successes " on Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

With the " Stay together " project initiated by him and various musicians from Lusatia in 2015 , he set a national symbol for tolerance and humanity.

Published in 2019 with Wir Kleinen will be the largest and in 2020 with Von Cottbus in the whole world publications with his songs.

Karow works as a music teacher and special education teacher at the Bauhaus School in Cottbus .

In 2016 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg for his services to promoting young musicians in the region . In the same year he also received the special award for social commitment in the election for "Cottbuser of the Year".
