Gate guard (Kassel)
The gate guard is located on Brüder-Grimm-Platz in Kassel and consists of two buildings that are opposite each other on Wilhelmshöher Allee . The buildings are part of an unfinished gate system that the architect Heinrich Christoph Jussow , who was also involved in the construction of Wilhelmshöhe Palace and the Löwenburg , designed in 1805.
The southern building (Brüder-Grimm-Platz 6) contained the collection of the Kupferstichkabinett from 1931 to 1939. It is now part of the Hessian State Museum. The northern building (Brüder-Grimm-Platz 1) was the residence of the Brothers Grimm between 1814 and 1822 and is part of the building complex of the Hessian Administrative Court .
During Documenta 14 , both buildings were covered with used, sewn together jute sacks, an action by the Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama . The southern part also housed works by other artists.
