Toshiaki Kobayashi

Toshiaki Kobayashi ( Japanese 小林 敏明 , Kobayashi Toshiaki , pseudonym: Kobayashi Binmei with the same spelling; born November 29, 1948 , Gifu Prefecture ) is a Japanese philosopher . His focus is on philosophy, psychopathology and the history of ideas.

Life

Kobayashi was born in Gifu Prefecture. He studied at Nagoya University , where he graduated in 1971 and graduated in 1974. From 1976 he worked in the well-known tutoring school ( 予 備 校 , Yobikō ) Kawaijuku. In 1984 he became a visiting researcher at the Institute for Religious Studies at the Free University of Berlin . From 1992 he conducted research in the psychiatry department of Heidelberg University . In 1996 he obtained his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin and took up a position as a research assistant at the East Asian Institute of the University of Leipzig , where, after his habilitation, he worked as an adjunct professor until 2014.

Services

In addition to his role in the reconstruction and reorientation of Leipzig's Japanese Studies, Kobayashi is best known today for his extensive work on melancholy and the philosophy of Nishida Kitarō , a representative of the Kyoto School .
