Toshizo Ido ( Jap. 井戸敏三 , Ido toshizo * 10. August 1945 in Shingu , Ibo-gun (now Tatsuno ), Hyogo Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician and since 2001 non-party governor of the prefecture of Hyogo.

Ido graduated from the Tokyo University Faculty of Law in 1968 . He then became an officer in the Interior Ministry . In 1996 he became deputy to the long-time governor of Hyōgo, Toshitami Kaihara . When he resigned prematurely in 2001 to take care of his dependent wife, Ido ran for his successor. The gubernatorial election was held on the same day as the Upper House elections held, defeated on 29 July 2001. Ido, with the support of his predecessor and LDP , Kōmeitō and Liberal Party , among others Toyochika Komuro , previously president of Himeji Dokkyo Daigaku , and Toyoaki Washida , previously Professor of of the University of Kobe . He announced that he wanted to continue the reconstruction policy of his predecessor after the 1995 Kobe earthquake .

In 2008, Ido hit the headlines across the country when he described a possible severe earthquake in the Kantō region as a development opportunity for the Kansai region.

Ido was re-elected for a third term in the gubernatorial election on July 5, 2009 with broad support from LDP, Kōmeitō, SDP and DPJ Hyōgo, confirmed for a fourth in 2013 .
