The Tour Rogier ( Dutch Rogiertoren , German Rogier Tower ) is a skyscraper in Quartier Nord , the central business district of the Belgian capital Brussels . It owes its name to the Place Rogier / Rogierplein in front of it . It was formerly known as the Dexia Tower . Since the Dexia Bank was broken up in the course of the global financial crisis from 2007 to 2012 , the name of the tower was changed on March 1, 2012. The owner of the building is still the former Dexia bank ( reorganized as Belfius after bankruptcy ). At 137 meters, it is one of the tallest buildings in Belgium.

history

The Tour Rogier was built on the site of the Center International Rogier / Internationaal Rogiercentrum . The Martini Tower , which used to be the tallest building in Belgium and was on the site, was demolished in 2001 for the construction of the Tour Rogier. In 2002 construction work on the tower began. In 2006 it was completed and officially opened. It was originally intended to be 179 meters high, but this idea was discarded as the height was considered excessive. The Tour Rogier is one of the few skyscrapers in Brussels whose roof surface is not horizontal. Instead, three sections inclined at different heights form the spire. It is also one of the few skyscrapers in the world whose roof is made entirely of glass.

The building has 6,000 windows, 4,200 of which are equipped with 12 LED lamps each. They allow the creation of abstract images with each window serving as a 'pixel'. Customer-specific displays are shown on special occasions or during holidays. Due to the financial crisis from 2007, the lighting in the building was greatly reduced, so it is only lit for 10 minutes an hour.
