The Towada Hachimantai National Park ( Japanese 十 和田 八 幡 平 国立 公園 , Towada Hachimantai Kokuritsu Kōen ) is a Japanese national park in the Tohoku region in northern Honshus. It extends around the areas of Lake Towada and the Hachimantai volcano. The park was established on February 1, 1936. The national park is classified with the IUCN protection category II. The Japanese Ministry of Environment is responsible for the management of the national park.
Flora and fauna
The national park serves as a habitat for a large number of animal and plant species. For example the Maries fir ( Abies mariesii ) and the Japanese Serau .
